Let's build a repair café workshop together in Bengaluru
A community-led a repair café workshop at the Cedar vacant lot that will serve 270 neighbors.
🇮🇳 Bengaluru, Karnataka, India1,080 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a repair café workshop. This year a group of 26 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Cedar vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $65, and the remaining cost is $400.
It will serve about 270 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $400 goes:
• Safety equipment and signage: $55
• Tools hire and delivery: $70
• Materials: $275
Thank you so much.

Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. After 13 years in public service I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Thinking of Bengaluru.
So sorry you're going through this, Saif. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Take care.
Take care, Saif. This could happen to any of us. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day
Good luck. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Thinking of Bengaluru
