For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a playground. This year a group of 20 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Baobab vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $1,050. It will serve about 539 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $1,050 goes: • Materials: $730 • Permits and inspections: $70 • Safety equipment and signage: $115 • Tools hire and delivery: $135 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.
