We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a free library and reading room - we need $1,400 for materials.

Saint-Étienne

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 27 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Sycamore vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $1,400. It will serve about 511 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $1,400 goes: • Tools hire and delivery: $230 • Materials: $1,050 • Safety equipment and signage: $120 If you're reading this, thank you. - Ghada

Good news. Because of your gifts ($495 in total) the first invoice got paid this week. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
