For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 19 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Harmony bus depot, but no funding. We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $3,900. It will serve about 386 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $3,900 goes: • Materials: $3,400 • Permits and inspections: $115 • Safety equipment and signage: $185 • Tools hire and delivery: $200 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.
