Let's build a community garden together in Dehiwala
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a community garden - we need $750 for materials.
🇱🇰 Sri Lanka1,351 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 9 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Jacaranda bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $80, and the remaining cost is $750.
It will serve about 213 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in June and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $750 goes:
• Materials: $570
• Permits and inspections: $55
• Safety equipment and signage: $45
• Tools hire and delivery: $80
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
