Laparoscopic endometriosis surgery for Marta: covering what insurance won't

A scheduled laparoscopic endometriosis surgery in November is out of reach without help covering $300 of the cost.

In August I was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes. My surgeon at Ciudad de México University Hospital recommended laparoscopic endometriosis surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for November. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $380, and after what my insurance will pay, I'm still $300 short. Doctors at Ciudad de México University Hospital told me severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without laparoscopic endometriosis surgery. I work as a retail assistant, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $380 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a retail assistant have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 7 weeks. I'll not be able to look after the children alone during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $300 goes: • Travel and lodging for the family: $55 • Physiotherapy sessions: $155 • Post-operative medication: $90 Thank you for reading my story.

  • Sending love. It takes guts to ask. Well done. My husband and I read this together. Thinking of Ciudad de México

    • Sending love. This could happen to any of us. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. Greetings from Guarulhos.

      • Hope things get better soon, Marta. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Blessings.

hope things get better soon. Shared this with my family. Wish I lived closer to León so I could bring a meal.
