Laparoscopic cyst removal for Rina: covering what insurance won't
After gallstones with repeated infections, Rina was cleared for laparoscopic cyst removal, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In May I was diagnosed with gallstones with repeated infections. My surgeon at Saint Catherine Hospital recommended laparoscopic cyst removal, and I have been placed on the schedule for July. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $1,700, and after what the public health scheme will pay, I'm still $850 short.
Doctors at Saint Catherine Hospital told me gallstones with repeated infections will get worse without laparoscopic cyst removal. I work as a retail assistant, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $1,700 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a retail assistant have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 6 weeks. I'll not be able to lift anything heavy during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $850 goes:
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $55
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $480
• Travel and lodging for the family: $30
• Hospital stay (5 nights): $240
• Post-operative medication: $45
Thanks for being kind about this.
