Laparoscopic cyst removal for Kinsley: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled laparoscopic cyst removal in April is out of reach without help covering $3,100 of the cost.

In January I was diagnosed with a thyroid nodule that needs removal. My surgeon at Springfield Orthopedic Institute recommended laparoscopic cyst removal, and I have been placed on the schedule for April. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $4,150, and after what my employer's plan will pay, I'm still $3,100 short.
Doctors at Springfield Orthopedic Institute told me a thyroid nodule that needs removal will get worse without laparoscopic cyst removal. I work as a security guard, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $4,150 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a security guard have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Recovery is expected to take about 8 weeks. I'll not be able to stand for more than ten minutes during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $3,100 goes:
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $280
• Travel and lodging for the family: $310
• Physiotherapy sessions: $680
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $1,830
Thanks for being kind about this.
