Beatrix was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated in April. The surgeon at Paarl Regional Medical Center recommended laparoscopic cyst removal, and She is scheduled for July. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,400, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $1,900 short. my wife has been in and out of Paarl Regional Medical Center since April. The doctors say a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without laparoscopic cyst removal. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,400 is more than we can find. While we wait, Beatrix struggles with daily life and can't climb stairs. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 8 weeks.
