Lakshmi's kidney cancer treatment fund

Lakshmi is facing kidney cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

In August I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. My oncology team at Galle Cancer Centre has planned 8 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in November. I was told to expect about 3 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 27, I worked as a tailor until August, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Galle Cancer Centre 2 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. I'll post every invoice and receipt as an update so donors can follow where each gift goes. Where the $1,250 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $820 • Household costs while unable to work: $150 • Scans and lab work: $145 • Transport to Galle Cancer Centre: $135 I hope life is good to you.

Updates from Lakshmi

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($233 in total) the first invoice got paid this week. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Keep going, Lakshmi. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Don't be hard on yourself for asking.

    • Sending love. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My husband and I read this together. Blessings.
