Nicholas was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated in September. The surgeon at Edinburgh General Hospital recommended knee replacement surgery, and He is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $8,250, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $4,150 short. my husband has been in and out of Edinburgh General Hospital since September. The doctors say a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without knee replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $8,250 is more than we can find. While we wait, Nicholas struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 4 weeks. During that time Nicholas won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing.       The list at the bottom is the whole picture. post-operative medication is the biggest at $270. I'll keep the page updated.
