Knee replacement surgery for Maëlle: covering what insurance won't

Maëlle was diagnosed with a herniated spinal disc in September. The surgeon at Paris University Hospital recommended knee replacement surgery, and She is scheduled for December. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $7,500, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $3,750 short.
my sister has been in and out of Paris University Hospital since September. The doctors say a herniated spinal disc will get worse without knee replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $7,500 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Maëlle struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 10 weeks. During that time Maëlle won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing.
