Knee replacement surgery for Gabriella: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled knee replacement surgery in May is out of reach without help covering $2,450 of the cost.

Gabriella was diagnosed with a deviated septum causing chronic infections in March. The surgeon at Toronto University Hospital recommended knee replacement surgery, and She is scheduled for May. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $3,250, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $2,450 short.
my mother has been in and out of Toronto University Hospital since March. The doctors say a deviated septum causing chronic infections will get worse without knee replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $3,250 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Gabriella struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 12 weeks. During that time Gabriella won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.

• Travel and lodging for the family: $400
• Hospital stay (4 nights): $1,850
• Post-operative medication: $200
