Knee replacement surgery for Feyza: covering what insurance won't
After a herniated spinal disc, Feyza was cleared for knee replacement surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In January I was diagnosed with a herniated spinal disc. My surgeon at Saint Mary Hospital recommended knee replacement surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for April. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $2,150, and after what our health plan will pay, I'm still $1,600 short.
Doctors at Saint Mary Hospital told me a herniated spinal disc will get worse without knee replacement surgery. I work as a farm laborer, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $2,150 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a farm laborer have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Recovery is expected to take about 10 weeks. I'll not be able to stand for more than ten minutes during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
