Knee replacement surgery for Dedi: covering what insurance won't
Dedi needs knee replacement surgery at Depok University Hospital and the family is $1,100 short of the hospital's estimate.

In December I was diagnosed with a deviated septum causing chronic infections. My surgeon at Depok University Hospital recommended knee replacement surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for March. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $1,850, and after what our health plan will pay, I'm still $1,100 short.
Doctors at Depok University Hospital told me a deviated septum causing chronic infections will get worse without knee replacement surgery. I work as a seamstress, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $1,850 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a seamstress have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Recovery is expected to take about 5 weeks. I'll not be able to lift anything heavy during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.

• Hospital stay (4 nights): $340
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $95
• Post-operative medication: $30
• Physiotherapy sessions: $55
• Travel and lodging for the family: $60
