Knee replacement surgery for Anand: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled knee replacement surgery in May is out of reach without help covering $950 of the cost.

Anand was diagnosed with a large ovarian cyst in February. The surgeon at Mumbai University Hospital recommended knee replacement surgery, and He is scheduled for May. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,600, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $950 short.
my brother has been in and out of Mumbai University Hospital since February. The doctors say a large ovarian cyst will get worse without knee replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,600 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Anand struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 4 weeks. During that time Anand won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing.
