In March I was diagnosed with a hip fracture that never healed properly. My surgeon at Dodoma Orthopedic Institute recommended laparoscopic endometriosis surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for April. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $580, and after what our health plan will pay, I'm still $350 short. Doctors at Dodoma Orthopedic Institute told me a hip fracture that never healed properly will get worse without laparoscopic endometriosis surgery. I work as a retail assistant, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $580 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a retail assistant have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. The recovery period is expected to take about 8 weeks. I'll not be able to climb stairs during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $350 goes: • Hospital stay (4 nights): $180 • Physiotherapy sessions: $75 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $95 Thanks for reading all this. - Kevin

  • Keep going. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. Greetings from Buffalo!

    • Wishing you peace. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Blessings.

      • Thanks for sharing this, Kevin. Shared it with a few friends. Don't be hard on yourself for asking.

        • Good luck, Kevin. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. We're a small family in Swansea but we're thinking of you.
