In September I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. My oncology team at Riverside University Hospital has planned 12 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in December. I was told to expect about 12 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 50, I worked as a bus conductor until September, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Riverside University Hospital 2 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $9,900 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $5,750 • Household costs while unable to work: $2,650 • Transport to Riverside University Hospital: $650 • Scans and lab work: $850 Thank you so much. - Kendall
