Keep the electricity on at Samuel's home in Kampala

Samuel is behind on electricity bills after an unexpected car repair and needs $100 to avoid a shut-off.

The electricity account is 3 months behind. I received a disconnection notice that says service will be cut off on October unless I pay $100. I have never been late before an unexpected car repair. I called the provider and asked about a payment plan, but they need a down payment of $10 first, which I don't have. I live with an elderly mother, and going through the cold months without electricity isn't safe. Without it we can't refrigerate insulin and food, or keep the house at a safe temperature. I'm working on getting back on my feet, and will pay forward whatever help I can once I'm steady. The money will go directly to the utility provider, and I'll post the paid statement here. Where the $100 goes: • Water arrears: $50 • Reconnection and late fees: $15 • Down payment on a payment plan: $35 With deep gratitude, Samuel

  • Hope it all works out. Shared this with my family. Greetings from Phoenix

    • I hope your landlord gives you a bit more time while this comes together. After 26 years in retail I know how hard it's to ask for anything!

Sending good thoughts, Samuel. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. All the best.

Hang in there, Samuel. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Blessings
