When my hours were cut in half in November, I fell 3 months behind on rent. Last Friday a termination letter was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $200.
My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by April, we must leave.
I have a teenager still in school at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
I have started working weekend shifts, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent.
Where the $200 goes:
• Late fees and court costs: $45
• First month of rent as a buffer: $105
• Utilities in arrears: $50

Sure. The biggest one is late fees and court costs, $45. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. It helps to be asked.

I was in a similar spot a few years ago and it did get better. My sister had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Thinking of Embakasi.
