Keep a roof over Vani's head in Kolkata
A final eviction notice arrived last week. Vani needs $450 to clear the arrears and stay housed in Kolkata.

When the packaging plant closed in February, I fell 3 months behind on rent. Last Wednesday a final eviction notice was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $450.
My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by May, we must leave.
I have a toddler and a baby at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
I have started working evenings as a cleaner, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent.
Where the $450 goes:
• Rent arrears (3 months): $330
• Late fees and court costs: $25
• Utilities in arrears: $15
• First month of rent as a buffer: $80
Thanks for reading all this.

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Vani.
Rent arrears (3 months) is $330 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Thanks for looking so closely.
Sending good thoughts, Vani. Gave what I could, wish it was more. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Blessings
Gave what I could, wish it was more. We're a small family in Paris but we're thinking of you.
