Following a long illness in the family, I fell 3 months behind on rent. Last Wednesday a court summons for non-payment was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $600. My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by November, we must leave. I have two young children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. I have started working weekend shifts, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $600 goes: • Utilities in arrears: $20 • Rent arrears (3 months): $470 • First month of rent as a buffer: $110 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support. - Tarun

  • Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Tarun.

Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. utilities in arrears comes first ($20) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Appreciate you taking the time.

  • Wishing you peace. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. All the best.

    • You're not alone, Tarun. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. I went through something like this 13 years ago and strangers helped me out.
