Keep a roof over Sebastián's head in Buenos Aires

A 10-day notice to quit arrived last week. Sebastián needs $950 to clear the arrears and stay housed in Buenos Aires.

When my hours were cut in half in July, I fell 3 months behind on rent. Last Wednesday a 10-day notice to quit was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $950. My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by October, we must leave. I have a teenager still in school at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. I have started working extra hours at a market stall, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $950 goes: • Rent arrears (3 months): $750 • Late fees and court costs: $35 • Utilities in arrears: $30 • First month of rent as a buffer: $135 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support. - Sebastián

Updates from Sebastián

  1. We're at 61% thanks to 7 of you. I made the first payment toward late fees and court costs. More news soon.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($500 in total) the plan for first month of rent as a buffer is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  3. Update from Buenos Aires: the plan for rent arrears is now scheduled. We're at 16% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.
