Asaba
After a car accident that kept me from work for 4 weeks, I fell 4 months behind on rent. Last Wednesday a 10-day notice to quit was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $450. My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by September, we must leave. I have two young children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. I have started working evenings as a cleaner, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $450 goes: • Rent arrears (4 months): $300 • Late fees and court costs: $60 • Utilities in arrears: $15 • First month of rent as a buffer: $75 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support. - Rotimi

  • I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Thinking of Asaba.

    • Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Greetings from Nnewi.

      • Best of luck, Rotimi. Looking forward to the next update. I'm in logistics myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Love from Birmingham
