Following a long illness in the family, I fell 2 months behind on rent. Last Tuesday a notice to vacate was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $250. My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by November, we must leave. I have two young children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. I have started working evenings as a cleaner, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. The money will be paid directly to the landlord and I'll upload the receipt once it's done. Where the $250 goes: • Utilities in arrears: $25 • First month of rent as a buffer: $145 • Late fees and court costs: $80 Thank you for reading my story. - Paul

Updates from Paul

  1. Small update. $115 so far, I made the first payment toward utilities in arrears.

  2. We're at 46% thanks to 2 of you. we've started the first stage. More news soon.

  3. Good news. Because of your gifts ($15 in total) I met with the landlord and confirmed the amounts. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
