Keep a roof over Mehul's head in Chennai
A car accident left Mehul short on rent for 2 months; help us stay in our home.
🇮🇳 Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India2,187 views
Following a long illness in the family, I fell 2 months behind on rent. Last Tuesday a termination letter was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $450.
My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by September, we must leave.
I've 3 children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
I have started working two part-time jobs, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent.
Where the $450 goes:
• Rent arrears (2 months): $300
• Late fees and court costs: $30
• First month of rent as a buffer: $120

Best of luck. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Please keep us posted. Love from Multan.
Hope it all works out, Mehul. This could happen to any of us. I'm in social work myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Love from Lagos.
