Keep a roof over Mateo's head in Madrid
A notice to vacate arrived last week. Mateo needs $1,550 to clear the arrears and stay housed in Madrid.

After a car accident that kept me from work for 10 weeks, I fell 4 months behind on rent. Last Wednesday a notice to vacate was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $1,550.
My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by December, we must leave.
I have a toddler and a baby at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
I have started working two part-time jobs, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent.
Where the $1,550 goes:
• Late fees and court costs: $165
• Rent arrears (4 months): $1,150
• Utilities in arrears: $235

Looking forward to the next update. Thinking of Madrid
hope it all works out, Mateo. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Sent it to 25 people at work.
Sending strength, Mateo. Rent stress is the worst. Hope this helps. We're a small family in Bogotá but we're thinking of you.
