Abbottabad
After a sudden layoff at the hotel, Mahnoor fell 4 months behind on rent. Last Monday a termination letter was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $400. The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by February, the family must leave. There are a toddler and a baby at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. Mahnoor has started working weekend shifts, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $400 goes: • Rent arrears (4 months): $230 • Late fees and court costs: $40 • First month of rent as a buffer: $130 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.
