When the textile factory closed in July, Jack fell 3 months behind on rent. Last Saturday a 10-day notice to quit was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $4,450.
The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by November, the family must leave.
There are three school-aged children at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
