Keep a roof over Jabu's head in Johannesburg
After a sudden layoff, Jabu is 4 months behind on rent and has a final eviction notice from the landlord.

After a car accident that kept me from work for 8 weeks, I fell 4 months behind on rent. Last Wednesday a final eviction notice was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $1,100.
My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by November, we must leave.
I've 2 children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
I have started working weekend shifts, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
The money will be paid directly to the landlord and I'll upload the receipt once it's done.
Where the $1,100 goes:
• Rent arrears (4 months): $770
• Late fees and court costs: $50
• Utilities in arrears: $55
• First month of rent as a buffer: $225
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

16% there. I made the first payment toward late fees and court costs. Thank you.
Update from Johannesburg: the first invoice got paid this week. We're at 11% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

Thinking of you and your family, Jabu. I hope things turn around soon
Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. I went through something like this 5 years ago and strangers helped me out. Love from Ikeja.
rooting for you, Jabu. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Take care.
