A notice to vacate arrived last week. Hassan needs $550 to clear the arrears and stay housed in Cairo.

Following a long illness in the family, Hassan fell 3 months behind on rent. Last Tuesday a notice to vacate was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $550.
The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by December, the family must leave.
There are a toddler and a baby at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
Hassan has started working night deliveries, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent.
Where the $550 goes:
• Rent arrears (3 months): $300
• Late fees and court costs: $25
• Utilities in arrears: $30
• First month of rent as a buffer: $195
