Keep a roof over Getachew's head in Hawassa
A sudden layoff left Getachew short on rent for 2 months; help us stay in our home.

Following a long illness in the family, I fell 2 months behind on rent. Last Tuesday a court summons for non-payment was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $500.
My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by March, we must leave.
I have two young children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
I have started working extra hours at a market stall, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent.
Where the $500 goes:
• Rent arrears (2 months): $380
• First month of rent as a buffer: $110
• Utilities in arrears: $10
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Getachew
Rent arrears (2 months) is $380 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Ask me anything else.
Shared this with my family. Thinking of Hawassa.
