Keep a roof over Geeta's head in Pune

A termination letter arrived last week. Geeta needs $500 to clear the arrears and stay housed in Pune.

When my hours were cut in half in July, I fell 3 months behind on rent. Last Sunday a termination letter was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $500. My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by October, we must leave. I have a teenager still in school at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. I have started working extra hours at a market stall, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $500 goes: • Rent arrears (3 months): $330 • Late fees and court costs: $20 • Utilities in arrears: $25 • First month of rent as a buffer: $125 Thanks for being kind about this. - Geeta

Stay strong. This could happen to any of us. Wish I lived closer to Hamilton so I could bring a meal. All the best.

Thinking of you, Geeta. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. After 8 years in teaching I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Greetings from Tokyo.
