Keep a roof over Brooklyn's head in Newport

A cut in working hours left Brooklyn short on rent for 3 months; help us stay in our home.

Newport
When my hours were cut in half in September, I fell 3 months behind on rent. Last Tuesday a termination letter was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $2,800. My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by December, we must leave. I have two young children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. I have started working weekend shifts, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. The money will be paid directly to the landlord and I'll upload the receipt once it's done. Where the $2,800 goes: • Rent arrears (3 months): $1,900 • Late fees and court costs: $200 • Utilities in arrears: $90 • First month of rent as a buffer: $610 Every share and every dollar helps.

Sending strength. A secure home matters so much. Hope you're settled soon. My mother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home.

I was in a similar spot a few years ago and it did get better. I'll check back for the next update. Love from Rohini
