Mthatha
Kagiso was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in July. The oncology team at Mthatha University Hospital has planned 6 rounds of treatment, starting in October. He will be away from work for about 8 weeks. Kagiso is 32, worked as a nurse until July, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Mthatha University Hospital 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $2,200 goes: • Household costs while unable to work: $340 • Transport to Mthatha University Hospital: $135 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $150 • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,575 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support. - Charlene

  • Keep going, Charlene. Gave what I could, wish it was more. My husband and I read this together!
