In July I was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes. My surgeon at Dayton Orthopedic Institute recommended emergency hernia repair, and I have been placed on the schedule for October. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $3,650, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $2,900 short. Doctors at Dayton Orthopedic Institute told me severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without emergency hernia repair. I work as a security guard, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $3,650 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a security guard have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 5 weeks. I'll not be able to work a full shift during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $2,900 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,150 • Travel and lodging for the family: $490 • Post-operative medication: $260 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.
