In May I was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction. My surgeon at San Miguel de Tucumán Regional Medical Center recommended ACL reconstruction, and I have been placed on the schedule for August. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $2,300, and after what my insurance will pay, I'm still $1,850 short. Doctors at San Miguel de Tucumán Regional Medical Center told me a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without ACL reconstruction. I work as a school bus driver, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $2,300 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a school bus driver have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. Recovery is expected to take about 4 weeks. I'll not be able to climb stairs during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $1,850 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $640 • Physiotherapy sessions: $230 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $75 • Hospital stay (2 nights): $905 Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot. - Joaquín

Updates from Joaquín

  1. Wanted to say thank you properly. 19% funded and I made the first payment toward physiotherapy sessions.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($170 in total) I made the first payment toward pre-operative tests and imaging. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
