I live with profound hearing loss. My occupational therapist at the Toronto Rehabilitation Centre has assessed me and recommended a pair of hearing aids. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $8,750.
My current equipment is 15 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 8 weeks.
With the right equipment I could speak with the people around him. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing.
Where the $8,750 goes:
• pair of hearing aids: $8,000
• Fitting and training sessions: $290
• Delivery and set-up: $140
• First-year servicing plan: $320
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.
