Janet is facing kidney cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Janet was diagnosed with kidney cancer in November. The oncology team at the Ottawa Oncology Institute has planned 10 rounds of treatment, starting in March. She will be away from work for about 5 weeks.
Janet is 48, worked as a taxi driver until November, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the Ottawa Oncology Institute 2 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $8,650 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $4,350
• Scans and lab work: $1,250
• Transport to the Ottawa Oncology Institute: $1,000
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $520
• Household costs while unable to work: $1,530
