I live with low vision from retinitis pigmentosa. My occupational therapist at Bakersfield General Hospital has assessed me and recommended a prosthetic leg. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $9,100. My current equipment is 15 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 3 weeks. With the right equipment I could speak with the people around her. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home. We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest. I'll pay the supplier directly from the funds, and I'll post a photo once the equipment is delivered. Where the $9,100 goes: • prosthetic leg: $8,500 • Fitting and training sessions: $155 • Delivery and set-up: $150 • First-year servicing plan: $295 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

  • Wishing you the best. Get well soon. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it.

    • It takes guts to ask. Well done. We're a small family in Buffalo but we're thinking of you. Thinking of Bakersfield.
