Independence for Matthew: cochlear implant processor upgrade
Matthew needs a cochlear implant processor upgrade that the health system won't fund; the cost is $5,350.
🇳🇿 New Zealand1,060 views
Matthew lives with an amputation below the knee. The occupational therapist at Christchurch General Hospital has assessed him and recommended a cochlear implant processor upgrade. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $5,350.
His current equipment is 11 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined him to home for 5 weeks.
With the right equipment Matthew could go outside without waiting for someone to push. It would change everyday life for the whole family.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
I'll pay the supplier directly from the funds, and I'll post a photo once the equipment is delivered.
Where the $5,350 goes:
• Delivery and set-up: $100
• First-year servicing plan: $300
• cochlear implant processor upgrade: $4,950

you're not alone, Jose. I hope things turn around soon. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Love from Alcalá de Henares
Take care, Jose. Shared this with my family. Take care.
