Independence for Kidist: prosthetic leg
Kidist needs a prosthetic leg that the health system won't fund; the cost is $600.
🇪🇹 Hawassa, Sidama, Ethiopia940 views
Kidist lives with low vision from retinitis pigmentosa. The occupational therapist at Hawassa General Hospital has assessed her and recommended a prosthetic leg. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $600.
Her current equipment is 13 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined her to home for 6 weeks.
With the right equipment Kidist could attend work interviews. It would change everyday life for the whole family.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing.
Where the $600 goes:
• prosthetic leg: $520
• Fitting and training sessions: $15
• Delivery and set-up: $10
• First-year servicing plan: $55
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

Hope it all works out, Getachew. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. I went through something like this 13 years ago and strangers helped me out. Love from Timișoara
Can I help in a way that isn't money? I'm near Hawassa.
Thank you. If you're in Hawassa I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Thanks for looking so closely.
Rooting for you, Getachew. I hope things turn around soon. I went through something like this 14 years ago and strangers helped me out. Blessings.
Sending good thoughts. Shared this with my family. Sent it to 25 people at work
Wishing you the best, Getachew. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Take care.
take care. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. All the best
