I live with profound hearing loss. My occupational therapist at the Gaya Rehabilitation Centre has assessed me and recommended a prosthetic leg. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $1,350.
My current equipment is 8 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 6 weeks.
With the right equipment I could go to school independently. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing.
Where the $1,350 goes:
• prosthetic leg: $1,200
• Fitting and training sessions: $60
• Delivery and set-up: $25
• First-year servicing plan: $65
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.
