I live with a rare neuromuscular condition. My occupational therapist at the Johannesburg Rehabilitation Centre has assessed me and recommended a braille note-taker. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $2,500.
My current equipment is 13 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 10 weeks.
With the right equipment I could speak with the people around him. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
I'll pay the supplier directly from the funds, and I'll post a photo once the equipment is delivered.
Where the $2,500 goes:
• braille note-taker: $2,350
• Fitting and training sessions: $80
• Delivery and set-up: $20
• First-year servicing plan: $50
