I live with low vision from retinitis pigmentosa. My occupational therapist at the Brooklyn Rehabilitation Centre has assessed me and recommended a stair-climbing aid. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $5,950.
My current equipment is 13 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 4 weeks.
With the right equipment I could go to school independently. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing.
Where the $5,950 goes:
• Delivery and set-up: $180
• stair-climbing aid: $5,500
• First-year servicing plan: $270
