I live with muscular dystrophy. My occupational therapist at the Fort Worth Rehabilitation Centre has assessed me and recommended a prosthetic leg. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $2,150.
My current equipment is 10 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 5 weeks.
With the right equipment I could attend work interviews. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing.
Where the $2,150 goes:
• prosthetic leg: $1,600
• First-year servicing plan: $210
• Fitting and training sessions: $340

Good luck. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Thinking of Fort Worth.
