Independence for Akello: stair-climbing aid
Akello needs a stair-climbing aid that the health system won't fund; the cost is $850.

Akello lives with low vision from retinitis pigmentosa. The occupational therapist at Kampala General Hospital has assessed her and recommended a stair-climbing aid. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $850.
Her current equipment is 13 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined her to home for 7 weeks.
With the right equipment Akello could speak with the people around her. It would change everyday life for the whole family.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
I'll pay the supplier directly from the funds, and I'll post a photo once the equipment is delivered.
Where the $850 goes:
• First-year servicing plan: $35
• Delivery and set-up: $15
• stair-climbing aid: $800
Glad we found this place.
