The house fire that spread across the block hit the Marketplace district on 22 September. My home was one of 39 damaged, and 13 families are still in temporary shelter at the community hall. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. Funds go to building materials, water purification supplies, bedding, and food for families still in shelters. Where the $4,300 goes: • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $490 • Roofing sheets and timber: $2,050 • Clean water and purification supplies: $550 • Tools and labor for repairs: $1,210 If you're reading this, thank you. - Ga-eun

  • Great idea, hope you get there. After 21 years in nursing I know how hard it's to ask for anything. All the best

    • You're not alone. I hope things turn around soon. We're a small family in Swansea but we're thinking of you. Love from Swansea.

      • rooting for you, Ga-eun. I hope things turn around soon. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too.

        • rooting for you. This could happen to any of us. Please keep us posted. Take care!

          • Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. Take care
