The house fire that spread across the block hit the Millbrook settlement on 21 August. My home was one of 73 damaged, and 6 families are still in temporary shelter at the community hall. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. Funds go to building materials, water purification supplies, bedding, and food for families still in shelters. Where the $5,500 goes: • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $1,250 • Roofing sheets and timber: $3,250 • Clean water and purification supplies: $1,000 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

  • thinking of you and your family, Greyson. It takes guts to ask. Well done. God bless.

    • Thinking of you and your family, Greyson. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did.

      • Hang in there. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Take care.
