Hlengiwe earned a place in Grade 9 at Paarl Technical College, and the family couldn't be prouder. The school has a long list of things She needs, including a laptop for the biology course, and a uniform. The family has few resources; the list costs $300, which is more than they have. Hlengiwe loves biology and wants to become an engineer. A laptop will allow coursework at home instead of waiting for library hours. She will take care of everything given and works very hard. Items on the list: laptop, uniform, shoes, textbooks, calculator and a bag. Where the $300 goes: • Laptop: $195 • School uniform and shoes: $40 • Textbooks and workbooks: $35 • Calculator, stationery and a school bag: $30 Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly. - Sipho

  • Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Hlengiwe.

Sure. The biggest one is laptop, $195. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Let me know if you want more detail.

  • rooting for you, Sipho. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money.

    • Stay strong. Your post was clear and honest. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Thinking of Paarl.

      • I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My neighbor in Ciudad de México donated after I showed her your page.
